Earth as Art contest: GIS Day 2008
The IU Geographic Information Systems (GIS) community is hosting the 2nd annual Earth as Art contest in celebration of GIS Day, November 19. Open to the public, the contest encourages participants to create works of art based on satellite imagery, aerial photography, elevation data, infrared imagery, or map features.

UITS and the IU Geographic Information Systems (GIS) community are hosting the 2nd annual Earth as Art contest in celebration of GIS Day, November 19, 2008. The idea for the Earth as Art contest is based on the Earth as Art Gallery sponsored by the US Geologic Survey and NASA. It features amazing images of earth with an artistic perspective. Anyone can enter.
Participants in this annual contest are encouraged to create works of art based on satellite imagery, aerial photography, elevation data, infrared imagery, or map features from locations around the world. The geographic data can be displayed in a variety of colors - allowing for a unique and personal perspective of land and man-made features.

IU Linuxfest 2008

The penguin is back on the IU campus. In its tenth year now, the annual Linuxfest will again celebrate the free, open-source operating system Linux and its mascot, that loveable flightless Antarctic bird. Festivities will include noted speakers, demonstrations, booths and lots of free stuff.
For open-source enthusiasts at Indiana University, the last ten years have been the Decade of the Penguin. Since the first Linuxfest in 1998, Linux has become a key tool in the development of information technology around the world. Open-source software continues to steer the course of IT at IU, with major open-source applications like Oncourse and Kuali. Linuxfest celebrates these advances in open-source along with Linux itself.
